Fragmented reality of social networks

· notes

Existing social platforms tailor the user experience to a limited set of interaction formats and guidelines. We have social networks designed for short videos, long videos, short text entries, longer text entries, questions, employment announcements, personal photos, professional photos, messaging, NFTs. Some platforms allow sharing in multiple formats, yet there is still an implicit consensus among users regarding the theme and tone of the content. As the design of social networks promotes particular messages that conform to their vision, we spread our online presence across multiple platforms and create fragmented online personas. A social network of the future should introduce a way of expressing ourselves holistically and building an avatar that encompasses every personality aspect we want to share.
